Can people really change their accent?

without moving ot a different city with different accents/dialects is it possible to make yourself change - like for example sounding more posh and upper class? if so how?

Probably you can, its just too hard. Because to get an accent you need to speak with that accent all the time, but its nearly impossible, because you are used to how you always spoke before. And the new accent will be too weird for you. So it may take a long time.Can people really change their accent?
Well not permanently, but a lot of actors/actresses have to change their accents for movies, but they always go back to their original accent. You can impersonate other accents, but you can't change your accent completely at will. I have heard, though, if you travel to a different country a little bit of the accent there can rub off on you.

You can try to change it but eventually you will slip back to your formative years.
Sure, with a little effort. Just listen closely to how the people speak, and try to imitate it yourself.
