How often should you change the strings on an acoustic guitar?

It depends on how much you play. If you play every day than once a month is good. If you don't know how than let the shop do it for you. You should learn how to change them and if the shop can do it right when you bring it in then they will be glad to show you how. If you play less then once a week or only a few times a month then you can wait much longer if you store it in the case. When they start to sound dull, go out of tune more easily or just break. Go into a guitar shop so they can show you how, then you can do it by yourself in future. I warn you now they are sooooo patronising in there though.

it also depends on what kind of string, if it's like ';d'addario extended play coated'; they might last longer than other strings.



they say that those strings lose their ';brilliance' after like the first 8 hours of play.



also, you might be able to feel the strings, and if they don't feel good anymore, then that's a way to tell, also if it doesn't stay in tune as well that's another sign.



changing strings takes a while to learn i think, if you don't know how to do it, the you should have someone do it, so you don't waste more money on damaging strings trying to do it yourself



rmaybe they could even give you a lesson, and you could take notes or video tape it so you can learn how to do it yourself as if you're serious about guitar you're going to have to learn how to do it sooner or later.
Well id prefer every 5th mouth. But it depends on what strings you buy, if you plays at gigs and so on.. i playing on my strings(acoustic) till they broke ; ) .. which the E did today.. -.-. Howeaver changing themself id say to.. if you know how to do. Try to stand over the standard price on strings and change them every 2-5 mouth.
